Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship
The Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship was set up in 2012 to honor the life of Jonathan. It was created by his mother Debbie, who was a teacher at Notre Dame Elementary School from 1981-2010 and has close ties to the community.
The primary purpose of the Scholarship is to honor Jonathan by awarding scholarships to students who would benefit with financial assistance in pursuing their educational goals as part of a full and happy life.
Jonathan was an outgoing, fun-loving young man . He was a person who believed in following his dreams and living life to it's fullest. Jon was an avid sports player and was awarded the MVP by the St. Albert Football Association.
He loved and respected his family, especially his grandfather Robert (Bob) Neil Atchison. Jon and his maternal grandfather spent many happy days together in Cadomin, Alberta (in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains). Bob passed on a love and knowledge of nature, as well as the values of persistence, determination and education , which Bob believed were the keys to a bright future. Jon was on his way to living a well rounded life, with family, employment, travel and hobbies providing the cornerstones.
We would like to thank every student who applies for the Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship. We hope you pursue a life that involves travelling, learning about the world, getting involved in something that is bigger than you, and of course, education. Our goal is to help others with opportunities to find their path to happiness, fulfillment and the joy of life.

Dear Mrs. Senger and Family,
It is such an honour to receive the Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship. I'd like to take a minute and tell you why I decided to become a teacher, I think you and many others would appreciate my story.
When I was in grade eleven I was in a chemistry class with a good friend of mine, and just as we were about to start a new unit he gets sick and misses basically the whole thing! When he comes back to school he just couldn't get the stuff that we were doing, so the Friday before our unit exam he asks me for help, and of course I agree to help him. We spent all weekend at Tim Horton's working on chemistry! The unit exam comes and goes, and the Friday after the exam we get it back, I got somewhere in the high eighties and he gets an eighty. He was ecstatic! When he showed me his mark I had such a strong feeling of pride.
After that I looked into becoming a teacher and what that would mean for me, I decided I wanted to do it when I realized how much of an impact I would have on peoples life. I would be teaching future doctors, politicians, teachers, and many others in between. I would also get a chance to shape their character and help them grow into successful adults.
Now that I'm in University and only a few short years away from becoming a teacher I look back on the teachers that affected my life. I look at the high school teachers who treated me like I was an adult and not some child they had to put up with. My middle school teachers who started me on the path I'm on today. And my elementary teachers who taught me the basics of life. I look back on all of the teachers that taught me and and wonder which teacher will I be most like. Either way, I hope the students in the school I teach at say something like "Man, Mr. Greaves is such a cool teacher, I wish I had him!"
Thank you again for granting me the honour of receiving the Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship, I can't wait to start teaching!

I am writing to thank you for choosing me as a recipient of this year's Jonathan James Senger Memorial Scholarship. I'm very grateful for the award as well as for the positive encouragement. The message behind the scholarship is very meaningful to me and I am again so grateful for being chosen.
I am currently studying a combined degree program and at the end of my five years I will receive a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Management in Finance.
